.RS domain coming in 2008
Posted on October 3rd 2007 in Internet
The .yu TLD (Yugoslavia), now transformed into two new TLDs - .me (Montenegro) and .rs (Serbia), after having a very brief period of being .cs (for the former Union of States of Serbia and Montenegro), will see its start probably in early 2008 (according to “Serbian National Registry of Internet Domain Names” - RNIDS). The new .rs TLD is to be open to everyone for registering as long as they can provide some sort of connection with Serbia (individuals and companies). Registration rules are up for public discussion and a decision is expected at the end of October this year. Otherwise, an introductory transition period will be introduced for transitioning existing “protected” .yu domains, but there will no sunrise registration per se.
If there are unexpected delays for the .rs domain, the organization has a set of rules, in cooperation with ICAAN, that prevents the .yu domain going offline before a stable existence for .rs has been created.
I’ll update on this as the news come, so stay tuned.
