Facebook on iPhone looks good

Facebook has released a special part of their site devoted to iPhone users. As of yesterday iPhone users can access Facebook on a new address ( iphone.facebook.com ). NetVibes has already launched their iPhone site allowing iPhone users to access NetVibes tailored to their device.

TechCrunch has published pictures of what the two social networks look like on the iPhone, so go and see Facebook on iPhone here, and NetVibes on iPhone here.

The iPhone has spawned a whole wave of changes online. Facebook and NetVibes followed, which is logical considering their sites cater to exactly the kind of audience that may be the majority of iPhone users.

Arkanoid for iPhone

Scott Schiller designed a DHTML version of Arkanoid. It looks impressive, with sound effects and all. Initially made to work on browsers on Win2K/XP, but later expanded to work on Safari and … iPhone. Here is the support list from the site itself:

This is the updated browser support list so far in 2007:

  • Apple iPhone (hardware v1.0)
  • Safari 1.3.2
  • Opera 9

I took it for a spin on my laptop (XP/Firefox 2.x) and it worked great. I wish I could test it on iPhone, but can’t at the moment. If any of you guys have an iPhone, try Scott’s Arkanoid and tell us if it worked alright. On the iPhone, the otherwise default mouse control, is replaced by touch (click) control using another DIV placed on top of everything else to provide the control layer.

That’s not all though. On the site you can actually design your own level, or choose from the many existing levels. Check out DHTML Arkanoid on Schillmania.com !

Books about iPhone

iPhone has certainly spawned a tsunami of content and services. I’ve just come across a blog post about a book called iPhone: The Missing Manual , by author David Pogue (otherwise known as NY Times writer and author of the Missing Manual series), on IntoiPhone.com . That got me interested, since I’ve been following all the hype created over iPhone, so I went over to Amazon and did a simple search in the books section on iPhone. Here’s just a shorter list of all the titles I got (ordered by Amazon’s relevance filter):

iPhone: The Missing Manual

The Rough Guide to the iPhone (Rough Guide Reference)

iPhone Fully Loaded

My iPhone: Learn how to use and customize your iPhone to make it uniquely your own

Like I said this is only a very short list. There are dozens of books on iPhone available.

Pretty impressive, regarding the fact the device only just came out on the market. Not even all the device’s capabilities have been discovered completely, especially with recent posts about the iPhone’s hidden module list. I wonder if any of the above books mention things like this, given that they were probably prepared for publishing weeks, maybe even months ago.

iPhone cases by Louis Vuitton … mais oui!

The iPhone craze continues. Louis Vuitton, the famous fashion designer, decided to jump onto the iPhone crazy train and contribute with specially designed cases. I must say they look pretty good. I guess if I was a fashion nut, and already wore clothes and apparel befitting a modern urban warrior, this would certainly be a welcome addition to my style. Heh, the price though, it’s kinda Vuitonish. The alligator case is about $1100 US! So, if you have a grand lying around, get a Louis Vuitton iPhone case (you may want to get an iPhone first though) :) You can always get an Louis Vuitton iPod leather case instead.
