When the desktop simply isn’t enough

Suffering from computer desktop clutter? This is definitely not the way to handle that problem, although it’s quite an imaginative way of physically storing documents in your workplace. I guess if you have a wall big enough, and a reasonably dynamic document generation, this might actually help you organize your documents. The whole thing is their idea, and you can actually buy these wall desktop folders for 29 EUR (about $38) :) If nothing else, this would be a great way to bring a little life into the old office.

Two week time gap on my blog

Maybe you’ve noticed that there are about two weeks worth of posts missing on my blog. That’s about 20 posts in total. My hosting provider did a system upgrade and somehow all this content ended up missing. I am working on resolving this issue, but the way things look now, the missing content will probably never get restored. I will try and rewrite the most important posts that I think are worth repeating since they are time insensitive, such as the post about reciprocal links still being a useful SEO tool, and a couple of others, but it will have to wait when I have time.

On a freaky note… The same day, in fact almost immediately after I noticed what was happening I got an email promoting Rack Space hosting services. I am talking minutes here! Wow, talk about a freaky incident!

Headcast is heading on

I posted some time ago about the Headcast, John Cleese’s video cast. Well i thought I’d check on the progress. It seems there is something going on on headcast.co.uk. The site is in the works obviously, there is a short video of John announcing the Headcast, but also a header image that doesn’t load. There is nothing more to see though, except a couple of links to other sites, which leads me to believe that we’re witnessing a live development process going on. Maybe a news blog on the site wouldn’t be a bad idea?!

In the meantime, visit John Cleese’s Big Site and check out the silly walk page. For the rest of the stuff, you’ll have to join.

MadV returns?

Remember this guy? If you’ve spent time on YouTube you must have seen his videos. I’ve watched them over and over again, and enjoyed his tricks every time. In case you still don’t know what I am talking about, see here.

Something is going to happen on November 5…

Headcast - John Cleese video series

dog.jpg

John Cleese (yes … Monty Python should ring a bell), who has had a successful history both as an actor and comedian, but also as a podcaster, has decided to embrace the latest technologies again in form of a new project called Headcast. This will be a series of video casts where John will share his insights, humor, thoughts and rants, available through The Podcast Network, with whom the author has signed a deal.

The series will be made available as a free version on The Podcat Network over the next few months, with the premium version available as well.

According to TPN’s post, the author’s free podcast, produced by UK company Funk, has achieved over 500,000 downloads in 2007. The John Cleese Podcast is free, since it started in 2005, and will remain that way, but the author and the producers are aiming to explore video as the new media, and experiment with premium content.

Can’t wait to see this! :)

When the ‘Cyber Gods’ turn against you

A couple of days ago I was domain shopping for a couple of projects I’ve been planning for a while now. Lucky me, I found two great domains available for a normal registration price (about 10$). They were not only great for what I needed but also as domain names by themselves. I tried to purchase them right away using my credit card. The card didn’t work (turns out the issuing bank had technical difficulties for days); my cable connection died (severe thunder storm, damaged infrastructure city-wide); DSL connection died a couple of hours later (same problem as cable); dial-up was simply unusable (dead slow). Finally, two days later, everything started working, I went back, and what do you know? Both domains have been purchased the day before. Bummer! It’s like the cyber gods have all turned against me on this one. Now I have to start looking for new domain names that will do the job, but that won’t be easy, the two I missed were perfect.

My point… when a good domain name comes up have a contingency plan in place - borrow, travel, beg, do whatever it takes to grab it right away. Also, if your idea hangs on something as simple and as unsure as a domain name, then you should probably rethink the whole thing. If the meaning and significance goes only as deep as the domain name, you will probably be in trouble. Grabbing the perfect domain name is just a start, what follows is the real thing. If your idea has substance, the domain name itself may not be all that significant in the end.

Well, back to the drawing board. Gotta go research keywords and come up with a couple of good domain name choices.

Back from Vacation Land

Just got back from a short but nice vacation in Montenegro, the seashore to be exact. It was a great 10 days of sightseeing, snorkeling, resting in the shade of olive trees. To be honest, I was actually thinking about staying there for a while. I mean, almost everything I do for a living can be done from anywhere in the world (well, almost), so why not? It turns out Life 1.x still has its claws sunk in to my Life 2.0 aspirations…

Anyway, here’s a couple of shots from the Montenegro coast. It’s a beautiful country, so if you get a chance, go there. It’s great for both summer and winter vacations. Learn more here.
