Super Mario in one JavaScript file

supermariojs.gifThis is a great example of how JavaScript can be used to render graphics and games in browsers, at only 14 Kb of code (compressed). The demo is playable, using arrow keys, although it features only one (incomplete) level. No external images or files are used. Sprites are made using canvas or div-making tactics (for IE), and sound is embedded as base64 encoded data (URIs). All sprites have only 4 colors, which helps keep things small (40-60 bytes per sprite).

As the guys at Nihilogic said, this was a proof-of-concept exercise, but it’s impressive how much was achieved with a single 14 Kb javascript file.

South Park episodes online

c_documents_and_settings_th.jpg

As announced some time last year, South Park Studios has made all South Park episodes available online. Everyone is able to watch for free, and there are plenty of other goodies on the site such as download for mobile and desktop, the episode guide and more. You can’t download whole episodes, but you can download video clips. Episodes contain promotional excerpts at certain points, marked by vertical white notches on the video time line.

Enough said. Go to South Park Studios and enjoy! Britney’s New Look is sick :)

Google as a fashion inspiration

Saptarshi Roy posted something interesting on his blog. It seems someone in the fashion world found Google as a strong enough inspiration to use it on a dress (literally).

I wonder if the creator, Satya Paul, got revenue from the PPC ads on the dress (sari). How much would people pay to click on the model? ;)

In case you haven’t seen it yet

There has been a lot of posts about this in the past weeks. The “Here comes another bubble” video, by Richter Scale, has finally been re-released on YouTube, after an initial take down due to legal problems concerning a photo shown in the video, claimed to be the property of a Canadian photographer. Anyway, the video is pretty cool, so here it is … again:

When the desktop simply isn’t enough

Suffering from computer desktop clutter? This is definitely not the way to handle that problem, although it’s quite an imaginative way of physically storing documents in your workplace. I guess if you have a wall big enough, and a reasonably dynamic document generation, this might actually help you organize your documents. The whole thing is their idea, and you can actually buy these wall desktop folders for 29 EUR (about $38) :) If nothing else, this would be a great way to bring a little life into the old office.
